New Zealand's long-running conservation-based True Young Explorer Scholarship programme has added Australia's iconic Kimberley coast to its scholarship destinations, giving young people the opportunity to experience the world famous wilderness destination in August, for a fraction of what it would otherwise cost.
True Young Explorer Trustee Aaron Russ said adding Australia's Kimberley coast to its highly sought after Southern Ocean scholarship programme was a natural progression and an incredible opportunity for young people passionate about the wilderness, wildlife and history of one of Australia's wildest and remote destinations.
"True Young Explorer Scholarships were created to educate and inspire a league of young 'ambassadors' empowered to help raise the profile and protect some of the world's most wild and remote precious regions, and the unique flora and fauna inhabiting them, for future generations, he said.
"The Kimberley, forged by nature and spanning more than 400,000 square kilometres of rugged wilderness, with its rare and endangered wildlife, indigenous connections to ancient lands, incredible natural wonders like Horizontal and King George Falls and Montgomery and Ashmore Reefs, World War II and early explorer history is certianly one such region."
True Young Explorer Scholarships apply to 2024 Kimberley Explorer voyages with Heritage Expeditions, Australiasia's only family-owned and operated authentic small ship expedition cruise company, allowing a limited number of younger people aged between 18 and 30 years to join expeditions at a fraction of what it would otherwise cost.
To secure a scholarship, the Trust is looking for individuals who are passionate about the Kimberley region, said Aaron.
"Whether you are studying science, an artist, in media, involved in community organisations, a teacher or … we want to know why you should receive a scholarship and how the experience will benefit both you and the Kimberley region - how will you share your adventure?"
