Refitted True North vessels set for Kimberley and PNG voyages

#expeditioncruising .

True North Adventure Cruises has completed a $4 million refit of its vessels True North and True North II ahead of the 2026 expedition season, with upgrades focused on performance, comfort and operational capability.

On True North, works include installing new engines and cabin modifications, with selected rooms now fitted with additional Pullman bunks to increase flexibility while retaining the vessel’s small-ship capacity.

Upgrades to True North II include refurbishment of guest areas and the addition of new adventure boats, enabling improved access to shallow rivers, reef systems and remote shorelines.

Both vessels also completed crew training programmes prior to the season.

The 2026 programme introduces new itineraries across Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, with an emphasis on remote and expedition-style travel.

The Kimberley Untold itinerary explores lesser-visited sections of Western Australia’s Kimberley coast, including remote rivers, waterfalls, and gorges, with opportunities for fishing, wildlife encounters, and guided walks.

In Papua New Guinea, Navigate New Britain combines coastal exploration, snorkelling and visits to island communities.

The company will also return to the Great Barrier Reef, continuing its small-ship operations with a focus on controlled access and nature-based experiences.

Director Chad Avenell said the upgrades were aimed at improving operational flexibility and ensuring vessels and crew are prepared for the season.

True North operates small expedition vessels specialising in remote destinations across the region.
